2023 Shows at the PACE Center

January 12, 2023 By Chrissy

The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do Re Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.

Mulch: Available on a self-serve basis on-site while supplies last for the first week in January

Salisbury Park (East paved parking lot), 12010 S. Motsenbocker Rd.

The drop-off is available solely for Parker residents to recycle their Christmas trees. Additional yard waste and tree branches are not permitted. No commercial tree lot disposal is allowed as our elves have a hard time removing all of the tags.

Both green and flocked real trees are accepted. Before dropping off any Christmas trees, please remove all plastic tarps, tree stands and nails, ornaments, lights, garlands, and tinsel. No artificial trees, garlands or wreathes with wire backing will be accepted.

Please drop off during park hours only, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and do not illegally dump any other items at the drop-off location.

Tree Recycling Information

The trees collected by the program will be chipped into mulch, which is available at the same site at no charge to residents. The remaining mulch will be utilized throughout the Town and not discarded in a landfill.

Residents should not place Christmas trees in garbage containers. Keeping trees out of landfills helps extend the life of landfills and produces a useful resource. The annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program is just one of many ways that Parker residents can reduce, reuse and recycle.

Please remove all ornaments, lights, tinsel, garland, plastic wrap, tree stands, wire, rope, nails, etc. before bringing trees to be recycled. Live trees with artificial snow sprayed on the branches cannot be mulched. Who does what in the Town of Parker

April 16, 2021 By Chrissy

Many of these events have been temporarily or permanently canceled due to Covid-19. We will update you when the information is announced.

The Town of Parker recently put together this great information sheet about what local entity does what?

The Town of Parker government is proud to provide extensive public services to the residents of Parker. Since we work so closely with other Parker organizations, it is sometimes confusing to residents as to who provides which services. We would like to take this opportunity to give you more information about which local organizations are responsible for the services you depend on.

Town of Parker

The Town of Parker is in charge of “Let Freedom Sing” 4th of July Celebration as well as the Tree Lighting the Day after Thanksgiving and the Christmas Carriage Parade.* canceled for 2021 and possibly permanently. Other local events are run by various other non-profit and business groups such as the Parker Chamber and Rotary Clubs in the area.

Parker Water Services

Water and wastewater services are provided to most Parker residents by the Parker Water and Sanitation District. The District is a separate entity from the Town and determines water rates and watering restrictions. You can contact the District at info@pwsd.org or by calling 303.841.4627.

South Metro Fire Services

Although in some municipalities the fire department is a part of the governing organization, fire protection services in Parker are provided by the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority. South Metro Fire serves an area of approximately 176 square miles in portions of Douglas and Arapahoe Counties. Protection is provided to more than 198,000 citizens. You can find more information about the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority online at www.southmetro.org or by calling 720.989.2000.

Trash Pickup and City Dump

In many areas of Parker, trash services are included in homeowner’s association fees. If you do not live in one of those areas, arranging trash pick-up is the responsibility of the homeowner. Several private companies are listed in the phone book or you may contact your homeowner’s association for more information.

Public Education

Public schools in Parker are a part of the Douglas County School District. The School District determines when and where new schools will be constructed when to build additional school amenities and all other aspects of public education. You can find more information about the School District at www.dcsdk12.org.

Libraries

Douglas County Libraries provides all library services within Douglas County, including regional and neighborhood libraries, educational programs, and events. The Parker Library is located at 10851 South Crossroads Drive. For more information on the Douglas County Libraries or the Parker Library specifically, go to www.douglascountylibraries.org.

Parker Chamber of Commerce

The Parker Chamber of Commerce provides networking and professional development opportunities for local businesses and plans several large community events, including the popular Parker Days event held in June and the Wine Walks. The Chamber can be found online at www.parkerchamber.com or by calling 303.841.4268.

Parker Rotary Clubs

The Rotary club is in charge of The Parker Brewfest and up until 2021, Trick or Treat on Mainstreet however right now the event is in limbo and will not be held this year.

As always, the Town of Parker encourages you to contact your Parker Town Council with questions or comments at 303.841.0353 or by email at council@parkeronline.org.

Todd Hendreks running for Parker Town Council 2020

September 11, 2020 By Chrissy

My name is Todd Hendreks and I am running for Town Council for the Town of Parker this Fall.

todd henrecks and family

Sixteen years ago, my wife and I moved to one of the best places in America to raise a family. With two children born here, we have embraced the Community with open arms. The Town has changed quite a bit since 2004, but we love it today as much as we did back then.

I am running for elected office not because I think Parker needs to be fixed. I am running because I feel it is a special place where I wish to maintain that special hometown feeling that still exists today and improve the quality of life not only for my family but yours and your neighbors.

In the coming weeks, you will learn more about me and what I have accomplished here in Parker.

Todd’s Accomplishments

  • You will learn I have spent countless hours volunteering and serving this Town because I feel compelled to help others and I truly enjoy it.
  • You will learn that I have immersed myself into the fabric of the Community.
  • You will learn I have taken the time to educate myself on Town matters for years, long before I even considered running for elected office.
  • You will learn that I am one of the few candidates that does not disappear between election cycles.
  • You will learn that I am well qualified to represent the 56,000+ citizens that live here.
Todd Henreks

Most importantly, you will learn how much I would be honored to represent the citizens of Parker if elected.

As an Unaffiliated candidate, my political tendencies are fiscally conservative and issues for me range from Conservative to Moderate. What it also means is that I have the capacity to listen, understand concerns from all over the spectrum and most of all be fair.

You may not like my stance on certain things, but I promise you I won’t say one thing to your face then say the exact opposite to a different audience.

My Platform / Vision for Parker is summarized here, but I will go in-depth for future discussion.

Todd Hendreks’ Platform

  • Diversify the Local Economy
  • Recharge Efforts for More Open Space
  • Engage Community on Growth
  • Focus on Improving Fiscal Responsibility
  • Improve Options for Parks & Recreation
  • Advocate for Small Business
  • Prioritize Town’s Infrastructure Needs

Want to help? Please share this post and get engaged in the conversation on my page. More information about my campaign can also be found at the links below.

Sincerely,
Todd Hendreks

The Heat is ON St. Patricks Day weekend in Parker CO

March 12, 2015 By Chrissy

Parker Police Department Sculpture dedication

St. Patrick’s Day has become a celebration of Irish culture in which people of all backgrounds take part in the festivities, which often include alcohol. But far too often, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations end in tragedy because of drunk driving.

Whether your plans include gathering with friends at the local pub, hosting a party, or attending a local parade, the Parker Police Department is urging everyone to designate a sober driver and follow these simple tips:

Designate your sober driver or have an alternate transportation plan before the party begins.
* Avoid drinking too much alcohol too fast. Pace yourself – eat enough food, take breaks, and alternate with non-alcoholic drinks.
* If you don’t have a designated driver, ask a sober friend for a ride home; call a cab, friend, or family member to come and get you; or just stay where you are and sleep it off until you are sober.
* Never let a friend leave your sight if you think they are about to drive and have had too much to drink.
* Always buckle up – it’s still your best defense against other drunk drivers.

If you are hosting a St. Patrick’s Day party:

* Remember, you can be held liable and prosecuted if someone you served ends up in a drunk-driving crash.
* Make sure all of your guests designate their sober drivers in advance or help arrange alternate transportation.
* Serve lots of food and include lots of non-alcoholic beverages at the party.
* Stop serving alcohol sometime before the end of the party and begin serving coffee and dessert.
* Keep the numbers for local cab companies handy, and take the keys away from anyone who has had too much to drink.

The Parker Police Department urges you to celebrate responsibly this St. Patrick’s Day!!

It’s impossible to find an unbiased source of information about this election so we are quoting a post from a former Douglas County Teacher who now works for the Littleton Public School District.

I’m not going to tell you how to vote – that would be silly, I don’t know you or what you believe. (If you ask I’ll happily discuss who I’m voting for and why and see what you think.) But I am going to ask you to do two things to become a more informed Douglas County voter. First, learn a bit about the candidates. Visit their websites, attend a Candidate Forum and, if possible, talk to people who both agree and disagree with them to hear their reasoning to try to get a better idea of what the candidates believe, what they will do, and what effect that will have on our students.

Second, and this is crucial, talk to some Douglas County educators. Talk to teachers and educational assistants, the people we trust our children with each and every day, and see what they think. How do they think it’s going, what do they think would be best for our students, and why? If possible, also try to talk to one of the more than one thousand teachers that have left the district in the last few years. Many of those folks left for reasons completely unrelated to the district, but some of them left because of what’s going on in the district. Ask them why they left, compare that to what you hear from folks who stayed, and then judge for yourself.

This election shouldn’t be about the adults’ agendas, it should be about the students’ learning. Become an informed voter so that you can make the best decision possible for our students. They deserve at least that much from you.

Barking Dog ordinance in the Town of Parker Co

May 14, 2012 By Chrissy

Yellow Lab Fruits of Our Spirit Dog

Don’t Let Your Dog be a Noisy Neighbor

As the weather warms up, pets are outside more frequently. With this comes the potential for barking or howling dogs to become a neighborhood nuisance. While it is natural for dogs to bark to protect their home or owners, it is unlawful for any owner to permit their pet to bark, howl and/or yelp in a loud and persistent manner.

Owners that do not comply with this regulation could receive a court summons and a fine up to $499 per violation.

If you are having a problem with a neighbor’s dog barking, please attempt to resolve the situation with your neighbor first. If yo
u have already discussed the issue with your neighbor without results and you feel the noise is loud, persistent and habitual, please contact the Parker Police Department at 303.841.9800.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Animal Services at 303.841.9800 or email animalservices@parkeronline.org.
